About Stepmates
Stepmates Studios began with two mates, a camera, and a homemade steadicam — made from recycled timber and held together with a whole lotta duct tape. When that camera decided to leave the company in dramatic fashion by literally falling off the back of a car - the boys turned to animation.
At its core, Stepmates Studios is the combined devotion of Mark Nicholson and Sebastian Peart, creating animated satire that dances on the line of what constitutes taboo in the current political climate. They have rapidly captured the attention of audiences with their uniquely Australian sense of humour and ability to condense an oftentimes critically overthought topic, to a key statement.
In 2019, the Seven Network commissioned Stepmates Studios to produce the first series of Regular Old Bogan which hit Australian screens in August 2020.
Since then, the boys have created a political ad campaign, animated credits for a Hollywood blockbuster, and several ad campaigns for local brands. In 2022 they’ve kept busy growing the team and taking on more work — from animated segments for the TV show Holey Moley to client web-series and viral videos.
Most things are still held together with duct tape.
