Children know good content. They’ve got short attention spans, so they’re not going to invest their time in stories that don’t speak to them.

Good storytelling is important to children. It’s not just the profound impact it has on their growth and development. It’s the connections kids make with characters in the stories they’re told. Remember when you were little? Do you remember how Bugs Bunny or Bart Simpson felt like a friend of yours? We do.

Stories for kids are no less sophisticated that the ones we tell for adults. All great stories are simple and focussed - and that is harder to achieve than it seems.

Too simple, and kids will feel like you’re patronising them.

Too complex, and even adults won’t connect with it.

We here at Stepmates Studios love writing for children, because we believe it’s the most challenging and rewarding creative to produce.

Animation is the perfect medium for kids and their boundless imaginations. Unlike live action film, anything is possible in animation, which means we can tell fantastic and unique stories.
